Colonia del Sacramento Uruguay
Mahalo Chicos,
We went on a short family holiday this past weekend to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. If you are driving there from Montevideo it is about 144 kilometers of long grassy roads with a few squirts of civilization here and there.
Here is a history and description of Colonia, it would be our second time visiting this historic site and this time I was determined to capture as much photos to share with my readers as possible.
From the end of November to January Colonia is filled with tourist ranging from South America, North America, and a few Europian countries. So far we’ve found that the tourist are mostly Argentinians and some Brazilians with a few dashes of North Americans. A long way to travel from Asia and South Asia, but I am hopeful one day will come.
Anyways, Colonia is a tourist town for those months I mentioned, for the rest of the months it is slow and quiet. There are a great many Expats that live in Colonia or around Colonia. Most of the ages-of the expats are late thirty’s and up.
There is a small handful of restaurants that offer anywhere from local dishes to French crepes. What attracts tourists to Colonia would be the historic homes, brick laid streets, remains of defense buildings, and bridges. There are no beaches, but plenty of surrounding river, I have not seen anyone actually swimming or wadding in the river but I am sure its possible. There are plenty of sail boats though, so I imagine its a nice place for boating.
Colonia is not a place for young people to drink and party the night away, or rather it is not just a place for that. There are much more matured tourists that co mingle with the youth and party just as well. Its not a like Central American get away for people with money, its a place for anyone.
Ciao,
odeliza
