Odelizza Life of a US Expat in South America

Oi!

Tudo Bem? Down town Colonia del Sacramento located in Uruguay is often referred to as ‘Old Town’ ‘Old City’ or ‘Colonia by locals and expats. Its actually the first city in Uruguay and most of the architecture, cobble stone streets, towers, and walls are still maintained by the government. Its a very well know tourist must see in Uruguay.

Myself along with my other half, and our New York friends took a short drive to Old Town for dinner and to appreciate the sights. Its was pleasant. There were’nt as many tourist at the time. So If you’d like to visit Old Town, my suggestion would be from October-March. December and January having the heaviest in tourist traffic.

Oi!

Our friends from New York bought two properties in Uruguay, one ranch or campo, the other a city home located at the old town Colonia. Here are some snap shots of their back yard.

I can’t wait until everything is renovated and complete! They want to make a retreat slash bed and breakfast. Maybe they’ll let me be a guest chef there, I’d love to try out some of my clean eat recipes with their clients. So exciting!

Friends’ Campo at Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay #2

Odeliza Life in South America

Ola,

Here are some more snap shots of our friends’ campo located at Colonia in Uruguay. Their campo is very secluded and takes a trip to get to, but the peace and quiet was worth it. Even though we live in Montevideo, which is the capital of Uruguay and the main dwelling of most people, with the exception of construction noise its not that busy. But having stayed a weekend at their place, well now I know what quiet really is.

Odeliza travel to Colonia, Uruguay

Oi!

There is a decent amount of Expats from around the globe that station their selves in Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. I suppose it is because of the quiet, near the boats to travel to Argentina, and rather secluded from everyone else.

My fiancee along with Midori, our Labrador, took a trip to a friend’s campo or ranch in Colonia. It was pleasant, very still, and really really quiet.

Odeliza

Oi!

Its a bit chilly now, as Ive mentioned on my post in 08 and 07, winter in Uruguay begins in May and ends in October. So for those that would like to travel to Uruguay, the best time to come is from November through March. Its when the climate is most beautiful; hot, cool breeze, sun and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Come check out my latest journal entry at Odeliza Jacoba Expat Blog .

Oi!

I like the fact that we live right next to the beach. Granted, the beach is not for swimming, just for sun bathing and our dog Midori’s play tub, but its really nice.

We try to take advantage of the nice weather when its available in Uruguay. From May through November its bitter cold and yuck!

But when the weather is just awesome we go out no matter what! Even if it is just to hang out at our beach which we happily dubbed Midori Beach.

More on Buenos Aires, Argentina

Oi!

As I sit here in the warmth of my beach house, I think about my return trip to Argentina, its just a 50 minute plane ride away. And the rewards I’d receive from traveling to Argentina are bountiful: Indian food and all kinds of cuisine, visit my friend, Lau, sight see, eat some more, and hang out with my friend.

What is Brasil Thinking?

Posted in Odeliza's Personal Journal by odeliza on the May 13th, 2009

Oi,

I enjoyed my short holiday to Florenapolis, Brasil last year, this year, I am taking Portuguese here is my back story Odeliza Jacoba Official Model Site . My goal is to have conversations with local Brasilianos, but now the Brasilian goverment won’t let me in.

Well, they’ll let me in on a one time visa for close to 200 USD. Its already really pricey to travel around South America from Uruguay. It seems that Brasil does not want US citizens to live in their country.

I just want to travel to Brasil for a few months to see what I can see in the country and document my whole trip for my internet viewers. What is the harm in that. I am going to spend tons of money to live there while I explore the country so its a profit for Brasil. Shesh…

Sorry, I don’t mean to sound too negative, here is my reason why Odeliza Jacoba Expat Blog . I’m still going to go to Brasil, pay up for it, enjoy the country and hope I don’t get deported back to the US.
